Sweden will purchase Polish drones for the Ukrainian Defense Forces as part of military assistance.

Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson announced this after visiting a Polish drone manufacturer.

“I visited WB Group, and you have really impressive capabilities in the field of drones, you are very innovative. But we need to have a more balanced relationship in arms procurement between Poland and Sweden, so in our latest aid package to Ukraine, we have reserved some funds for procurement from the Polish defense industry,” the Minister shared in an interview with Rzeczpospolitej.

Paul Johnson added that cooperation between the Swedish and Polish arms industries will develop dynamically.

At the same time, the head of the Swedish defense ministry did not specify what types of drones would be ordered from the WB Group.

It is also unknown what the potential cost of the order and its volume will be.

The Ukrainian military already has experience in using Polish Warmate attack drones on the battlefield, as well as reconnaissance FlyEye drones manufactured by WB Group.

Last September, WB GROUP presented a new concept of the Warmate 50 attack drone during the International Defense Exhibition MSPO 2024. It is designed to perform strike missions over long distances.

Support from Sweden

At the end of March, the Swedish government allocated more than €7 million to the drone coalition and the mine action coalitions.

The country’s Ministry of Defense noted that the support, totaling 80 million Swedish kronor, is part of the 18th military assistance package to Ukraine, which is estimated at $1.22 billion (13.5 billion Swedish kronor).

It was allocated in late January and became the largest from Sweden during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
