Latvia will transfer a batch of military assistance, which will include Stinger MANPADS, helicopters, small arms, and drones, to Ukraine.
This was announced in a message released on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Latvia.
“In the near future, we will ship new batches of military support to Ukraine, including Stinger MANPADS, helicopters, ammunition, machine guns, and drones. And this year, Latvia will continue training servicemen of different levels of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The plan is to increase the intensity of training and prepare at least twice as many Ukrainians as in 2022,” Ināra Mūrniece, Latvian Defense Minister, stated.
She announced the allocation of assistance to Ukraine following a visit to Kyiv and a meeting with Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“We, Latvia, are not only listening to what the President of Ukraine, the Minister of Defense, and the Armed Forces say. We hear what Ukraine asks for to be able to resist and defeat the aggressor. And we are taking action,” Ināra Mūrniece added.
Also, the Latvian Ministry of Defense reported that Ināra Mūrniece will participate in the Ramstein format Contact Group meeting on January 20.
She will also meet with Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak in Poland. In Tallinn, she will meet with Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas, and British Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace.
The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the geopolitical situation and coordinate measures to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
Previously, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki shared that he expects that the allies could transfer up to 100 Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
