The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a conspiratorial spy of the Russian special services in the Luhansk region.

The woman tried to win the trust of the SSU, but at the same time she was performing the tasks of the Russian special services. Its purpose was subversive activity against the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

In order to fulfill the task of the Russian curators, the detainee contacted a representative of one of the units of the SSU and offered her help in the fight against the enemy. She allegedly wanted to provide information about the activities of the Russians in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine established that the woman was recruited by Russian agents in 2019 through the so-called “Ministry of State Security of the LPR”.

Since February of this year, the agent has fulfilled the invaders’ orders: by learning the transportation routes and movements of military equipment on the territory of the Luhansk region. In addition, the woman collected information about the participants of the resistance movement in the region, namely in the Markivka village that was occupied by the Russians. She gave the collected information to the occupation authorities.

“The SSU thwarted the enemy’s plans to penetrate their “mole” into the secret apparatus of the Service. As a result of multi-pronged counter-intelligence measures, the perpetrator was promptly exposed, the criminal activity was documented and her “curator” was identified. Ukrainian counterintelligence officers misinformed the aggressor, took the traitor to the controlled territory and detained her,” the Security Service of Ukraine emphasized.

The detainee was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Treason committed under martial law). She was remanded in custody.

The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of up to 15 years or life imprisonment.
