Counter-intelligence of the SSU has neutralized a sabotage and intelligence group of the Russian special services in Kyiv and the Sumy region.
The detainees were scouting the deployment points and movement of Ukrainian troops in the territory of the capital and in the border regions.
This was reported by the press service of the SSU.
One of the main tasks of the saboteurs was collecting personal data and detecting locations of the commanders of combat units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was planned to use this information for physical elimination of the Ukrainian military, their weapons and equipment.
The group for reconnaissance and subversive activities was formed by a staff member of the FSB. It included a resident of Sumy region, who was recruited by the Russian special services after the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and another resident of the region, who had caught the eye of the invaders because of his pro-Russian views.
To accomplish the enemy’s task, the men used their connections in the region and traveled around the border area to monitor units of the Ukrainian military.
One of the detainees went to Kyiv, where he tried to covertly photograph and film the locations of Ukrainian defenders. He transmitted the obtained coordinates to the Russian Federation.
The SSU officers detained the men when they were taking weapons from a cache prepared in advance on the territory of Sumy region.
During the inspection of the hiding place, law enforcement officers found:
The detainees were going to use this weapon for sabotage on the territory of the Sumy region.
In addition, during the searches, computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of correspondence with FSB officers were seized from the men.
Detainees were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 (Treason committed under martial law), Part 2 of Art. 114-2 (Unauthorized dissemination of information about the sending, transfer of weapons, armaments and war supplies to Ukraine, movement, transfer or placement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Currently, the issue of selecting a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved. The issue with additional qualification of actions under Part 1 of Art. 14, part 2 of Art. 113 (Preparation for sabotage under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is under consideration as well.
As previously reported, the day before the SSU detained a man who adjusted the invaders’ strikes on Mykolaiv.
