A Russian agent who spied on the 3rd Assault Brigade of Armed Forces of Ukraine was detained in Kyiv.

He also tried to get a job at a defense company in the Kyiv region.

The SSU said that the 52-year-old resident of Kyiv was collecting intelligence on Ukrainian Defense Forces and strategic infrastructure of Ukraine. He tried to identify and pass on to Russians the locations of reserve command posts of the 3rd Assault Brigade and headquarters of Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the investigation, the man was remotely recruited by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in the fall of 2023.

“The agent ‘leaked’ to invaders the coordinates of key energy and heat generating enterprises that provide electricity and heating to most of the civilian infrastructure of the capital,” the statement said.

According to SSU cyber experts, the Russian agent collected information about both power substations and main power lines, as well as heating plants of KyivTeploEnergo.

Russians needed the data to prepare new attacks on the Ukrainian military and critical infrastructure.

The Russian agent also tried to get a job at a defense plant in the capital region. To do this, the man prepared a CV and sent it to the HR department of a strategic enterprise.

The Russian agent communicated with representatives of the Russian special service through a Telegram channel and an anonymous messenger chat.

“To identify locations of potential targets for the enemy, the traitor walked the streets of Kyiv and its surroundings and secretly photographed the “right” objects. For each completed task, the FSB transferred a monetary reward to the agent’s bank card,” the SSU said.

It is reported that during the searches of the detainee’s apartment, a cell phone with evidence of correspondence with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and bank cards, on which he received Russian money, were seized.

Based on the evidence collected, the detainee was notified of suspicion of high treason. He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment.
