Russian special services have been collecting intelligence information about the defense of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.

In particular, they were interested in the coordinates of the placement of military formations that ensure the defense of the power plant.

The SSU detained another Russian informant who was gathering intelligence about the defense of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.

He has become the second exposed agent of the Russian special services who monitored this strategic object in 2023.

According to the investigation, the agent turned out to be a resident of Yuzhnoukrainsk, whom the Russian special service engaged in cooperation in May of this year.

“The enemy noticed him because of his pro-Kremlin posts in one of the Russian Telegram channels,” the SSU said.

It is reported that the agent was paid to collect and pass on information to the Russians about the locations and numbers of units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine guarding the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.

In particular, the invaders were interested in the exact coordinates of the deployment of Ukrainian troops, which ensured the defense of the NPP and the satellite city of Yuzhnoukrainsk. The Security Service of Ukraine notes that the Russians needed this information to prepare targeted missile strikes.

According to preliminary estimates, the man received a total of almost UAH 9,000 from the enemy for completing previous tasks.

The SSU employees detained the intruder while he was trying to hand over the coordinates and photos of one of the military facilities. A mobile phone with evidence of criminal activity was seized from the detainee.

On the basis of the collected evidence, the investigators notified the suspect of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Currently, the man has been remanded in custody. A pre-trial investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime.
