Explosions in Novofedorivka in occupied Crimea could occur due to the actions of Ukrainian special forces and resistance groups.
Western media report it with reference to their own sources.
The Washington Post refers to an anonymous source in the Ukrainian government and reports that explosions at the airbase were the work of Special Operations Forces operators.
It is emphasized that the official did not disclose the details of how the Tuesday attack was carried out. At the same time, journalists draw attention to the fact that such actions of Ukrainian forces mark the escalation of the war. It also demonstrates the ability of the Ukrainian army to strike behind enemy lines much farther than before.
They emphasize that the SOFs are engaged in an active campaign to penetrate the Russian-controlled territory and coordinate their actions with the local resistance movement to carry out attacks on the invader depots and bases.
The New York Times also refers to a Ukrainian senior military officer who confirms that the Ukrainian military and their supporters participated in this operation.
Also, the official noted that “a device exclusively of Ukrainian manufacture was used“.
At the same time, the Russians claim that the explosions were caused by a fire at an ammunition depot. The occupation authorities of Crimea report one person to be dead after the incident.
Investigative journalists from the “Scheme” Radio Liberty media released the satellite photos of the airfield, taken a few hours prior to the explosion.
They recorded aircraft located on the scene.
On the morning of August 10, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the destruction of 9 enemy aircrafts, possibly considering the losses due to an explosion at the airfield.
