The Spanish company Arquimea wants to supply its new Q-SLAM-40 loitering munition to Ukraine.
The company’s representative told the Militarny correspondent about this at the FEINDEF-2023 exhibition.
The new loitering munition can be seen at the 8th International Exhibition “Defense and Security” (FEINDEF), which takes place from May 17 to 19 in Madrid.
The exhibition showcases the latest products, technologies, and services in the defense and security industries, provided by companies from around the world.
The presented Q-SLAM-40 (Arquimea – Surgical Loitering Airborne Ammunition, 40 mm) is designed to safely and efficiently perform short-range tasks.
The loitering munition is fully designed and manufactured by the Spanish company ARQUIMEA, which offers a unique European-made product.
The Q-SLAM-40 system can be easily carried by a team of two soldiers in backpacks. The system can be deployed anywhere in 5 minutes.
Q-SLAM-40 consists of two main elements: a pipe launcher and a drone.
The launcher has a low thermal and acoustic signature, allowing for multiple launches.
The drone is fully operational in the absence of GPS in manned flight mode. Its small size and quiet electronic engine make UAVs very difficult to detect, recognize, and track, even at close range.
The manufacturer says the system includes advanced on-board guidance systems, navigation systems, and payload control.
“This is a fully integrated system with high-speed, digital, encrypted, and bidirectional data channels,” says Arquimea.
The system weighs 28 kilograms and fits in two backpacks intended for this. One is designed for a control system and a launcher, the other for loitering munitions (3 units).
The system is divided into three subsystems: loitering munition, control station, and launcher.
The UAV is equipped with appropriate navigation and propulsion systems, but also has a combat unit. The UAV flies with the help of a small electric motor installed in the stern.
In addition, the UAV has a video system capable of transmitting images in real time. The platform carries a warhead consisting of a 40mm grenade and has an electronic fuze.
With regard to flight and trajectories, perhaps the most important characteristic of the Q-SLAM-40 is that the operator always retains control, being able to interrupt the attack at the last moment or choose a way to blow up the warhead.
Recall that the American company Aerovironment began production for Ukraine of a new type of drones.
