The Spanish government will transfer six M-192 launchers for MIM-23 Hawk air defense systems.
The relevant statement is published on the website of the Spanish government.
Earlier this year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new aid package from Spain.
At that time, assistance in the field of air defense was announced.
Previously, Spanish authorities promised Ukraine six American-made MIM-23 HAWK (Homing All the Way Killer) medium-range surface-to-air missile systems to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
This brings the total number of systems received from Spain to twelve.
This number of M-192 launchers is enough to equip two batteries.
In July, Militarnyi reported that the United States had purchased decommissioned Taiwan’s Hawk air defense systems for Ukraine.
It is worth noting that there was no visual evidence of the use of these missiles by the Ukrainian air defense.
MIM-23 Hawk is an U.S. medium-range anti-aircraft missile system manufactured by Raytheon.
It was adopted by the United States in 1960, and since then, it has undergone several modernization programs. It has three generations: Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III.
The first version of the air defense system had a range of up to 25 km and an altitude of up to 14 km. After modernization, the maximum target interception range was increased to 40 km, with a maximum interception altitude of 18 km.
A typical Phase III HAWK battery includes an MPQ-50 radar, one AN/MPQ-62 continuous wave surveillance radar, two AN/PQ-61 high power illumination radars, one fire distribution center, one friend-or-foe transceiver, and six launchers with 18 missiles.
The missile was used by a large number of European countries, including Greece, the Netherlands, France, Germany and others.
