The Spanish Ministry of Defense has signed a contract for the purchase of Vector drones from Quantum Systems.

According to the signed contract, the Spanish army will receive 91 systems, which include ground control equipment and two drones.

The value of this order is €27.4 million and is part of the Spanish army’s global program known as “droneification”.

The contract also provides for the possibility of ordering additional drones as an option – up to 150 complexes, each costing €301 thousand.

The final decision to order an additional number of systems will be made based on economic feasibility and available budget in the respective years.

The Vector drone, developed by the German company Quantum-Systems GmbH, is a reconnaissance UAV with vertical takeoff and landing designed to operate in difficult weather conditions and on the battlefield.

It has a wingspan of 2.8 meters, a length of 1.63 meters, and a maximum takeoff weight of 7.2 to 7.5 kilograms, depending on the configuration.

The flight time is up to 120 minutes, and the range is up to 15 kilometers with a standard antenna, or up to 25 kilometers with a sector antenna. Cruising speed varies from 15 to 25 meters per second, which corresponds to 54-72 km/h. The maximum wind speed at which the drone can operate is 12 m/s.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the Spanish Ministry of Defense expected more than a hundred drones of various types for the Army.

In addition to drones, the ministry is looking for companies that are ready to participate in the mass production of drones: reconnaissance or FPV drones.

The Ministry of Defense is seeking to make the use of drones in the Spanish army widespread, and is allocating additional funding to support the “droneification” program.
