South Korea is set to provide Ukraine with additional non-lethal aid worth 2 billion won ($1.6 million).

Militarnyi informs about this.

Yonhap News news agency, citing an informed source, reported that Seoul is preparing to start shipping to Ukraine such items as bulletproof vests, helmets, medical supplies, and ready-to-eat meals (MREs).

South Korea is planning to ship over the new supplies by the end of April in stages via civilian flights to Europe, and Seoul and Kyiv are fine-tuning the details of the planned shipments, the source said.

Despite Kyiv’s calls for weapons support, Seoul has maintained that there are “limitations” in sending weapons to Ukraine.

Suh Wook, Minister of Defense, reiterated this position during his phone talks with Oleksii Reznikov, Ukrainian Minister of Defense, last week.

On Monday, April 11, during a virtual address before South Korean lawmakers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had asked Seoul for military equipment support to help his country fight against Russian aggression.

In March, South Korea had shipped the non-lethal means of protection worth $800,000 to Ukraine.
