Hanwha Aerospace has started building an artillery manufacturing plant in the town of Petrești, Romania.

According to Monitorul Apărării și Securității, the new facility will be the company’s first production site in Europe.

The plant will focus on manufacturing K9 Thunder self-propelled artillery systems.

The company’s management sees this facility as the foundation for transforming Hanwha Aerospace Romania into a fully fledged domestic manufacturer.

In addition to assembling equipment, the plan assumes close cooperation with local companies and the transfer of advanced technologies to the Romanian side.

In the future, the company also plans to participate in the infantry fighting vehicle (MLI) modernization program, which is financed through SAFE mechanisms.

The completion of the plant in Petrești will enable Romania not only to meet its own artillery needs but also to fulfill orders for other European countries.
