Soldiers of the Territorial Defense of the Zaporizhzhia region conducted the training on the use of M240 machine guns.
The Zaporizhzhia Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported about this.
Ukrainian defenders are mastering the small arms that come into service of the Defense Forces from various countries who support our state in the fight against the Russian invaders.
Soldiers of the Territorial defense noted that the machine gun is easy to use.
“The Zaporizhzhia Separate Territorial Defense Brigade conducted trainings among units on its use. The machine gun proved to be a very convenient, accurate weapon, the bullets were hitting exactly that places that the soldier intended,” reads the statement.
The M240 was adopted by the U.S. military in 1977, and several modifications were developed over the years.
The basic version of the machine gun is equipped with light folding bipods on the gas discharge unit, a pistol grip with a trigger, and a handle (wooden or plastic).
An open sight is located on the top of the receiver. The new modifications could also have the Picatinny rail installed. This allows putting any optical and night sights with respective mounts.
The barrel of the machine gun can be exchanged quickly. A carrying handle, which is used to replace the hot barrel, is also installed, along with a flamethrower and front sight on a high base.
The machine gun is powered by a metal tape (a loose one as a rule). The gas discharge unit is located under the barrel. It is equipped with a gas regulator to control the rate of fire and adapt to external conditions.
To date, the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have reached almost 110,000 personnel.
In addition, over 700 volunteer formations of territorial communities were created. Territorial defense is equipped not only with Ukrainian weapons but also with Western models.
