Officers of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine are using the US Black Hawk multirole helicopter.
Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published a video featuring the training sessions, which took place in one of the directions.
Soldiers practiced the landing of combat groups on the battlefield, evacuation, landing from airborne ropes, and night flights.
It is noted that the aircraft is significantly ahead of the Soviet-era Mi-8 and Mi-24 in almost all specifications.
At the same time, the Ukrainian crews mastered the Black Hawk quickly, as it took them just a few hours.
“Having experience operating the Mi-8 and Mi-24, we could fly the Black Hawk on the first day we received it. We just boarded and flew,” the pilot shared.
It is also emphasized that the Black Hawk is much more maneuverable than the Mi-8, much better in handling, and has a higher horizontal flight speed.
The helicopter can continuously fly for about three hours and cover a distance of over 600 kilometers.
This helicopter type is designed for launching Hellfire guided and unguided missiles and is used to support infantry and transport various cargoes.
“Over the past year, the level of our pilots has enormously improved. Currently, Ukraine can easily accept about a hundred Black Hawk multirole helicopters, about 50 Apache attack helicopters, and about 40-60 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters. We could accept this amount with minimal time for retraining our pilots,” assures the helicopter’s first pilot with the call sign “Maestro”.
Black Hawk is used by the Special Forces of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and is already taking an active part in hostilities.
The UH-60A Black Hawk was spotted among the combat aircraft of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in February of this year.
Analysts of the Telegram channel NMFTE managed to locate a helicopter with similar liveries with the tail number N60FW. It belonged to the company Ace Aeronautics, which specializes in developing cabin upgrades for transport aircraft.
The same board was demonstrated in combat configuration with an installed set of weapons in March 2022 at the Helicopter Association International exhibition in Dallas.
“Combat Aviation of Ukraine” channel notes that the video features the UH-60A helicopter with the tail number N60FW Blue AceDeck equipped with an L3 WESCAM electro-optical system and an External Gun Mount System (EGMS) CFD International complete with Hellfire missiles, along with an M134 Gatling machine gun.
The UH-60A Black Hawk flight was previously recorded in Ukraine.
The UH-60 is a US multirole helicopter developed by the American company Sikorsky Aircraft.
In 1976, the Sikorsky company won the competition to supply a new model of helicopters to the US Army under the index UH-60. By the mid-1990s, more than 2,600 helicopters of various series had been produced.
The UH-60A is the first serial version of this helicopter, which was delivered to the armies of the United States and other countries. Helicopters of this series were upgraded to the UH-60L version by equipping them with new T700-210C engines.
The US Army has currently replaced these helicopters with a new version of the UH-60M, which was equipped with a better digital two-channel Hamilton Sundstrand remote control system and a new cockpit. The helicopter is also equipped with advanced General Electric T700-701 engines with a digital control system.
However, the UH-60A helicopter with the N60FW Blue AceDeck tail number is not identical to the Army UH-60As. It has undergone a number of major modifications, and its avionics were replaced by the owner company.
