The soldiers of the 3rd Assault Brigade captured the Russian positions and rescued four Ukrainian servicemen from Russian captivity.
The press services of the brigade and the Kreminna tactical group reported on this.
It is reported that while moving between the positions on the contact line in the Lyman sector, four Ukrainian servicemen were ambushed by the Russian sabotage-reconnaissance group of up to 10 people.
Taken by surprise, the soldiers were unable to put up effective resistance, so the Russians captured them and led them to their positions under the cover of a forest belt.
The soldiers of the 3rd Assault Brigade spotted suspicious movement near the contact line through a UAV camera and found out that a group of soldiers assigned to the brigade had not reached their destination and were out of contact.
It took a few minutes to find out why: in a gap in the greenery, a UAV operator spotted the movement of the Russian sabotage-reconnaissance group and reported it to the commander.
The commander of one of the battalions of the 3rd Assault Brigade immediately assessed the situation and ordered a rapid response team to move in to destroy the sabotage-reconnaissance group and rescue the POWs.
The soldiers immediately loaded into an M113 armored personnel carrier and moved to intercept the Russians. They caught up with them as they were approaching their positions.
The soldiers of the 3rd Assault Brigade joined the battle on the move, binding the enemy with fire. Having abandoned their prisoners, the enemy was forced to shoot back.
During the firefight, the POWs were able to escape and return to the Ukrainian positions on their own within a day. The enemy was driven back, and the position of the Ukrainian troops in this area of the front line was restored.
“The outcome of the battle was decided by the combined fire support of the battalion and brigade, as well as the personal courage and bravery of the personnel of the 3rd Assault Brigade,” the Kreminna tactical group said in a statement.
In the battle, the Ukrainian servicemen destroyed a sabotage-reconnaissance group of the Russian invaders, damaged and destroyed the Russian fortifications, creating the preconditions for further success in this area.
Militarnyi previously reported that the 3rd Assault Brigade would hold a three-day training for civilians in Kyiv on October 11-13.
