Slovenia has sent the promised 35 M80A infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. Probably the equipment is already in Ukraine.
This was reported by 24ur.com.
In exchange for the equipment transferred to Ukraine, Slovenia will receive a voucher from the United States for the purchase of weapons for the amount that exceeds the cost of the equipment that was sent.
M-80A is a significantly modified BMP-2. It has different armored body, the vehicle has a more compact size and reduced combat weight – 13,850 kg, compared to 14,700 kg in the BMP-2.
The Slovenian BVP is equipped a Hispano-Suiza HS.804 20mm autocannon. It has an effective range of about 1500 meters and ammunition of 400 shells. The M-80A is equipped with a 315 hp Daimler-Benz engine, which has been produced under license by FAMOS since 1980.
As previously reported, Minister of Defense of Slovenia Marjan Šarec has already announced the transfer of the BMP to Ukraine. He also noted that the country handed over small arms to Ukraine.
According to him, the country has exhausted its arsenal of weapons they can supply to Ukraine, but Slovenia will continue to help Ukraine, particularly with demining and military training that can take place in Slovenia.
In May, the Slovenian Ministry of Defense and the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) signed a contract for the purchase of Boxer armoured fighting vehicles.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov said that the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers are now part of the artillery arsenal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
