The Ukrainian Armed Forces received 30 BMP-1 tracked infantry fighting vehicles from Slovakia.

Jaroslav Naď, Minister of Defense of Slovakia, announced this.

His words basically confirmed the transfer of the armored vehicles.

“Glad to confirm that 30 Slovak BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles were donated to Ukraine,” Naď wrote on Twitter.

The Minister noted that infantry fighting vehicles were handed over to Ukraine as part of the so-called “circular exchange” between Germany and Slovakia.

Jaroslav Naď, Minister of Defense of Slovakia, first announced the possible transfer of BMP-1 to Ukraine in August 2022.

He shared this during the signing of the defense agreement with Germany.

The transferred equipment would come from the so-called mobilization stocks. This includes BMP-1s that are no longer used by the Slovak army.

Instead, Slovakia would be receiving 15 Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany. Within the equipment, spare parts would also be delivered, and personnel would be trained. The Leopard 2A4 tanks for Slovakia would also be upgraded.

Slovakia will receive its first Leopard this year; the rest of the tanks are expected to arrive next year. The Minister of Defense reported that the cost of the equipment to be transferred to the country is over €100 million.

Recently, Slovakia delivered another Zuzana 2 wheeled self-propelled gun to Ukraine. Thus, Ukraine has already received seven of the eight 155 mm self-propelled guns ordered in June 2022. Two more Zuzana 2 self-propelled guns were handed over to Ukraine in October.
