The Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic called on Poland and the Czech Republic about the possibility of protecting the Slovak airspace.
This is connected with Slovakia’s refusal to use МiG-29 fighter jets.
Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Naď announced this during a meeting with the Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová, as reported by CT24.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Slovakia started preparing for early dismissal of the use of MiG-29 fighters. The country has already ordered new fighter jets from the United States, but they will be supplied no earlier than in 2 years.
Poland agreed to protect the airspace of Slovakia, and if necessary, Polish F-16 fighter jets would be deployed in the country.
Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia will continue discussing the terms of cooperation.
Previously, Slovakia has handed over S-300 SAMs to Ukraine to strengthen the air defense.
Also, Slovakia has handed over four Mi-17 multi-purpose transport helicopters and one Mi-2 to Ukraine.
In addition to helicopters, Ukraine had also received 122-mm ammunition for the BM-21 Grad MLRS.
