Slovak company MSM Land Systems presented the upgraded ZSU-23-4 SVK self-propelled anti-aircraft gun at EDEX 2025, an updated version of the Soviet-era Shilka.
The project aims to extend the service life of a system still operated by many armies worldwide, Army Recognition reports.
The upgraded vehicle retains the main features of the original ZSU-23-4, including four 23 mm guns and the GM-575 tracked chassis. A new missile launcher has been added to the turret, expanding the system’s combat capabilities.
The SVK measures 6.54 m in length, 3.13 m in width, and 3.7 m in height with the radar raised. Its combat weight ranges from 20 to 22 tons. The crew consists of four, though a three-person configuration is also possible by combining the gunner and loader roles. The maximum speed is about 50 km/h, allowing the system to operate alongside mechanized and armored units.
Armament is based on the AZP-23 mount, with four 2A7M guns firing 23×152 ammunition. Total ammunition capacity is 2,000 rounds of various types: armor-piercing incendiary, high-explosive fragmentation, and tracer. Elevation angles from –4° to +85° enable engagement of aircraft, helicopters, and ground targets.
The GM-575 chassis is powered by a 280 hp V-6R diesel engine, providing a range of up to 450 km on roads and about 300 km over rough terrain. The vehicle can cross 2.5 m trenches, 0.7 m vertical obstacles, and 1 m-deep fords.
The fire-control system is based on the RPK-2 Tobol radar with a detection range of up to 20 km. The turret is stabilized, allowing firing on the move. The upgrade allows integration of modern optical systems and laser rangefinders, increasing the system’s effectiveness.
