Bratislava and Kyiv are negotiating the possible sale of 155-mm self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
Militarnyi reports about this with reference to the Slovak newspaper Spravy.pravda.sk.
Jaroslav Nad, Slovak Defense Minister, said that Slovakia could be supplying Ukraine with some of its Zuzana self-propelled howitzers.
“I can confirm that we are negotiating this (the sale of howitzers – ed.),” Nad said during a televised debate. He did not provide further details.
Slovakia could also be sending MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. However, as the Minister stated, such a possibility is not “on the table” yet.
According to the Minister, in the case of writing off MiGs before the supply of American F-16 fighter jets in 2024, airspace protection could be provided, for example, by the American military from their bases in Poland.
During the discussion, the Minister of Defense confirmed that Slovakia is negotiating with Ukraine on the possible supply of Zuzana self-propelled howitzers.
He added that it negotiations success, this would not be a gift but a commercial sale. He mentioned that it is still being debated whether it will be a Zuzana 2000 or Zuzana 2.
“And we are also discussing the possibility of having the damaged Ukrainian combat vehicles and tanks sent to our territory. We would repair them in our military-repair enterprises and return to Ukraine,” the Minister said.
Previously, Slovakia handed over the S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine and received the American Patriot system in return.
Eduard Heger, Prime Minister of Slovakia, had recently visited Kyiv and Bucha together with the President of the European Commission and the EU’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
