Six Countries Declare Readiness to Ensure Passage Through the Strait of Hormuz

The leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan are ready to ensure the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

A joint statement was published on the official website of the United Kingdom government.

The governments of the six countries supported preparatory planning for operations aimed at ensuring the safety of navigation in the region.

The signatories of the document condemned the laying of mines, drone and missile attacks, as well as the de facto closure of the strait to merchant ships. The countries called on Iran to immediately cease aggressive actions and comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime transport routes, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is located between the coast of Iran to the north and the territories of Oman and the United Arab Emirates to the south.

A significant portion of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes through the strait.

Oil is transported via this route by Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
