Ukraine’s newly formed 8th Airborne Assault Corps has been deployed to the front lines, according to the Airborne Assault Forces Command.
The corps includes six brigades.
Some established units with combat experience from the war in eastern Ukraine.
Others were formed after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
The brigades are:
Additional combat support and logistics units will also be attached to the corps.
The new structure aims to improve command and control, enable faster personnel deployment, and ensure more efficient resupply and support. It will be led by experienced officers and NCOs.
“Clear planning and coordination, strong concentration of force — these are the principles the 8th Airborne Assault Corps will follow,” said its commander, Colonel Dmytro Voloshyn, a recipient of the Hero of Ukraine award.
The formation of army corps structures is part of a broader shift in Ukraine’s military organization, aimed at improving operational control and flexibility on the battlefield.
In military doctrine, an army corps is a standing formation made up of multiple brigades and tasked with coordinating large-scale operations across a specific area.
Corps-level commands are also responsible for supplying units and adjusting troop deployments based on battlefield conditions.
Depending on the army, a corps may include two to five brigades and between 10,000 and 50,000 troops. Corps commands typically have the authority to redeploy units along the front line as needed.
