The first of four Type-218SG-class diesel-electric submarines has arrived in Singapore.
The country’s Ministry of Defense reported this.
The RSS Impeccable submarine homecoming ceremony was held at the Singapore Changi Naval Base.
Rear Admiral Sean Wat, Commander of the Republic of Singapore Navy, attended the ceremony.
The submarine arrived in Singapore aboard the Rolldock Storm civilian cargo ship, which left the German port of Kiel.
This city is home to the Kieler Werft shipyard, which built Impeccable.
German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems carries out the production of submarines commissioned by Singapore.
The parties signed a contract to construct the first pair of submarines worth EUR 1.8 billion in 2013.
In 2017, Singapore ordered two more Type-218SG submarines. In August 2020, the main Invincible series submarine entered sea trials.
Militarnyi previously reported that Singapore’s Impeccable and Illustrious submarines were ceremonially launched in December 2022.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Prime Minister of Singapore and his wife, who christened the boats, attended the ceremony.
The ship called Inimitable has not yet been laid down. The Invincible main submarine is used for training purposes and has not yet been delivered to Singapore.
Type-218SG-class of submarines is developed on the basis of Type-212/212A and Type-214. Submarines for Singapore are equipped with air-independent propulsion.
Its displacement is about 2000 tons, and the hull length is 70 meters. The maximum speed underwater is 15 knots. The crew consists of 28 people.
The submarines are equipped with eight 533 mm torpedo tubes, which can be used to launch anti-ship missiles.
The 218SG project’s boats are equipped with an advanced automatic combat control system of joint development of the German company Atlas Elektronik and Singapore Technologies Electronics.
