Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, Russian troops have lost at least six thousand officers of various ranks.

The Killed In Ukraine project, which keeps track of public obituaries of fallen Russian officers, reported on this.

The largest number of losses was recorded among senior lieutenants – 1520 people. Lieutenants are in second place – 1237, and captains are in third place, with at least 940 killed.

This is followed by majors – 609 killed, junior lieutenants – 460, colonels – 107, major generals – 7, and lieutenant generals – 3.

In addition, the project counted 827 officers of other ranks killed.

Officers, from junior lieutenant to major, are key links in the tactical chain of command.

Their high mortality rate is the result of constant assault operations and targeted attacks on command posts at the front line.

These losses do not just reduce the effectiveness of the frontline units, they cause systemic damage to the Russian army’s ability to conduct organized combat.

According to the Horyushko project, which analyzes all obituaries available online, since February 24, 2022, the Russian army has lost about 111,000 soldiers.

These statistics do not consider mobilized citizens from the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, soldiers of the so-called 1st Donetsk and 2nd Luhansk Army Corps, people who died in the rear or from the consequences of injuries, and foreign mercenaries.

The “jubilee” obituary, the 100,000th, was a reference to Alexei Burkov, a resident of the village of Sosnovskoye, Kirov region of Russia, who died in mid-December 2024.

It is also reported that March 2025 was a record year for the number of reports of missing Russian servicemen submitted to the Ukrainian I Want to Find project.

At that time, more than 320 new appeals about the missing invaders were recorded daily, and the total number of monthly applications reached 10,027.
