Several EU countries are in support of the idea of establishing a New Training Mission to boost the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
European Pravda reports about this.
The publication refers to the statements made by the defense ministers of three countries to the media before the start of the meeting in Prague.
In particular, Kajsa Ollongren, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, mentioned:
“The Netherlands will react very favorably to this idea. We are already engaged in training the Ukrainian servicemen in Great Britain, and, together with Germany, in the Panzerhaubitze 2000 training.
We are also working with Germany on a new project to train the demining specialists. In our opinion, this will be the right step for now.”
In addition, Antti Kaikkonen, Minister of Defense of Finland, stated that he is positive about the idea of a training mission.
The Minister also reminded that Finnish instructors are already involved in military training Ukrainians in Great Britain but noted that the details of the project should be discussed first.
Also, Artis Pabriks, Head of the Latvian Defense Department, discussed that he supports the idea and that Latvia would be ready to contribute. However, it is important that the project would be designed to be as practical as possible.
As previously reported, Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced a major training program for Ukrainian forces.
Borrell claimed that the training program details will be discussed next week after the meeting of EU defense ministers in Prague.
According to him, such a mission will not be stationed directly in Ukraine but in a neighbouring country.
