Ukrainian military counterintelligence has detained a Russian agent who was spying on Ukrainian military aircraft in western Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) reported the arrest.

According to the investigation, the spy installed hidden video cameras near military airfields.

The suspect is a 20-year-old resident of the Khmelnytskyi region, who came into the attention of Russian intelligence while seeking easy money through Telegram channels. He was tasked with monitoring the locations, numbers, and flight schedules of Ukrainian military aircraft.

The man reportedly placed concealed mini-cameras near air bases that provided online feeds and remote access to Russian intelligence.

This allowed the invaders to track aircraft presence and types at Ukrainian airfields in real time.

“SSU officers detained the agent ‘red-handed’ while he was setting up camera traps in the area of a military facility,” the agency said.

During searches, investigators seized a smartphone containing evidence of collaboration with the enemy.

The SSU has formally charged him with treason under martial law.

He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.

Previously, Kyiv authorities detained a former foreign military instructor whom the Russian FSB had recruited.
