Another group of Ukrainian artillerymen has come to the end of their training in the UK.
The British Ministry of Defense said that the gunners had mastered the AS90 155mm self-propelled gun.
The ministry released a video featuring Ukrainian gunners training on these self-propelled guns.
“The programme is part of the UK’s enduring commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia,” the ministry added.
The training took place at the Royal School of Artillery and is conducted under the supervision of officers and soldiers of the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
It is noted that the Ukrainian servicemen have been given bespoke training in all aspects of operating and maintaining the AS90 system.
It was emphasized that both experienced soldiers and new recruits were trained. The training program started in early February 2023.
The UK is handing Ukraine one AS-90 battery at “high readiness” and two more – “at varying states of readiness.” Ukraine will receive 30 such self-propelled howitzers.
In total, more than 1,000 British military personnel participate in Ukrainian military training programs taking place throughout the UK.
AS-90 is a British 155mm self-propelled artillery system developed by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering.
In total, the British Army received 179 units. Six artillery regiments are armed with ACS. AS-90 replaced the 105 mm FV433 Abbot and M109 self-propelled guns and trailed 155 mm self-propelled FH70.
The turret of the AS-90 is used in the production of Polish Krab self-propelled guns, which are also in service with the Ukrainian military.
