The SBI (State Bureau of Investigation – ed.) investigators gathered enough evidence and brought treason charges against a former Ukrainian officer, who’s now the “Admiral Makarov” frigate commander.
This was reported by the SBI press service.
“In 2014, he broke his oath and remained at the military base captured by the Russian invaders, refusing to relocate to the Mykolaiv Region. He swore an oath to the armed forces of the Russian Federation and continued his service in the Russian Black Sea Fleet,” the statement said.
The man in question is Hryhoriy Breev, who was previously the commander of the Ukrainian corvette “Lutsk.” The Russians appointed him the commander of the frigate “Admiral Makarov.”
The Ukrainian Navy reminded the public about him in late March.
“The cruise missile attacks were committed not only by Russian citizens, but also by traitors, who sided with the enemy during the occupation of Crimea in February-March 2014,” – the statement said.
The SBI reports that the officer, now as a Captain of the Russian frigate, returned to Ukraine in 2022. The vessel under his command launched cruise missiles on Mykolaiv and Odesa.
The Article provides for up to 15 years in prison.
The procedural control in criminal proceedings is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in military and defense sphere of the Southern region.
On May 23, frigate “Admiral Makarov”, one of the newest BSF ships, sailed from Sevastopol harbor. It joined a Russian naval group in Black Sea, consisting of seven large amphibious assault ships and two rocket vessels, increasing the threat of missile attacks on the territory of Ukraine.
The Operational Command South reports that as of June 14, the naval group of the enemy fleet in the northwestern part of the Black Sea consists of 4 guided-missile vessels and 3 dock landing ships.
