The U.S. Department of State has approved a potential sale of Patriot air defense missiles and related equipment to Saudi Arabia, valued at approximately $9 billion.
The Saudi government has requested the purchase of 730 PAC-3 MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement) missiles.
In addition to the missiles, the package will include launcher modification kits, automated logistics systems, and training simulators for personnel.
The agreement also provides for the supply of spare parts, consumables, classified software, technical documentation, and engineering support.
Lockheed Martin Corporation, based in Dallas, Texas, will serve as the principal contractor for the deal.
The United States has recently completed training for a Saudi military unit to operate the THAAD missile defense system.
