Satellite images of the Temp oil depot in Rybinsk, in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, taken on January 5, were released.
The images capture the aftermath of a Ukrainian drone attack carried out on the night of December 31, Radio Liberty reported.
According to the media, one large fuel tank was completely destroyed by fire.
Several adjacent tanks may have sustained significant damage as the blaze spread.
Ukraine’s General Staff said the long-range drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine’s Special Operations Center “A” executed the strike.
The Temp Plant, formally a Federal State Budgetary Institution Temp Plant, is part of Russia’s state reserve system, Rosrezerv, and is used for fuel storage.
Rybinsk lies within the Volga River system, has rail links, and functions as a transit and logistics hub.
This makes the city’s oil depot a key site for the storage and distribution of petroleum products in northeastern Russia.
Separately, on the evening of January 6, a Russian oil depot near the city of Stary Oskol in the Belgorod region caught fire following Ukrainian drone strikes.
Local residents reported a large fire at the facility, visible from several kilometers away.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the region’s governor, later confirmed the drone strike on the oil depot.
He claimed that an explosion at the facility in the Stary Oskol district caused several fuel tanks to ignite simultaneously.
