New satellite imagery shows a damaged logistics terminal in Tatarstan where Russian forces reportedly stored Shahed (Geran-2) drones and related components.
The images, published by NV, reveal at least two visible breaches in the building’s roof following the strike – one of them significantly larger than the other. However, the full extent of the damage inside the facility remains unclear.
It’s worth noting that secondary detonations may not have occurred because the Russians were storing the drones without their warheads.
However, a fire that may have broken out inside the terminal following the detonation of Ukrainian drones could have significantly damaged the Russian UAVs, rendering them unfit for further use.
As a reminder, the strike on the terminal was carried out on August 9 using long-range Liutyi kamikaze drones.
Ukraine’s Security Service (SSU) reported that those strike drones belonged to the SSU’s Alpha Special Group.
The distance from Ukraine to the strike location was approximately 1,300 kilometers.
The terminal was used by companies supplying goods and industrial components to Russia. Some of these shipments were intended for the production of Shahed kamikaze drones at a factory located in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone.
Alabuga is a key center for Shahed production in Tatarstan, rapidly increasing output and expanding its infrastructure.
The facility has relied on cheap labor, including students and migrant workers.
According to CNN, over 5,700 Shahed-136 drones were assembled at Alabuga between January and September 2024 – twice as many as during the same period the previous year.
