Moldovan President Maia Sandu said the country’s army needed complete overhaul and modernization.
Militarnyi informs about it.
She held speech at the celebration on the 30th anniversary of the General Staff of the National Army of Moldova, NewsMaker reports.
Sandu noted that throughout the last 30 years, the authorities had not been paying much attention to the development of troops, and now the country does not have required protection.
“Our army was left without supplies, with no military equipment. And now we can acutely sense the consequences,” she said.
She also added that Moldova should adopt the experience of other neutral states regarding strengthening the armed forces.
“Now, when the war is at our borders, we clearly understand this. Investment in the army is crucial, and it is vital for the state, infrastructure, and security. Moldova has to adopt the experience of other neutral states in strengthening its armed forces,” Sandu said.
She added that as Commander-in-Chief, she would make every endeavour to modernize the Moldovan army and defense system.
At the same time, the self-proclaimed “PMR” declares another “provocation” on their territory. This time, they accused Ukraine of shelling military depots near the village of Kolbasna.
According to various estimates, there may now be between 19,000 to 21,500 tons of ammunition in stock: shells, bombs, mines, grenades, ammunition, and more.
The day before, Maia Sandu noted that tensions in the Transnistrian region have been developing from the inside of the Transnistrian region, but the leader of the unrecognized region said that “the Transnistrian region will not be drawn into the war.”
