In Poland, investigators believe that two people with Ukrainian passports who worked for Russia are responsible for acts of sabotage on the Polish railroad.
During a speech in the Sejm, Tusk said that the investigation had identified the people believed to be responsible for the latest sabotage on the railroad, RMF24 reported.
Both suspects are Ukrainian citizens who have been cooperating with Russian special services.
They both entered Poland from Belarus and after their actions left the country through the Terespol border crossing point – before the investigation identified them.
One of the Ukrainians was already convicted by a court in Lviv in May (the year is not specified) for subversive activities in Ukraine.
The second “from Donbas” has worked in the prosecutor’s office in the past, though it is not known whether this means originating from the region or living in the occupied territories of eastern Ukraine.
Tusk said he would not disclose more information publicly as the investigation is ongoing.
According to the prime minister, the services are now convinced that the railroad sabotage near the village of Mika and the planting of objects on the railway infrastructure near the Pulawy station are acts of sabotage.
Before that, Poland’s security agencies claimed that “special services from the east” were involved in the railroad sabotage, although Russia was not directly named.
The section of the Warsaw-Lublin railroad where the sabotage was committed is of strategic importance for helping Ukraine.
Another incident also occurred on this section of the railroad, which has not yet been recognized as sabotage.
Poland has decided to send territorial defense troops to patrol the most important parts of critical railroad infrastructure following these incidents.
