Saab will upgrade the Swedish Army’s RBS15 anti-ship missiles to a new level.

The company stated it had signed an agreement worth SEK 800 million. Delivery will begin in 2026.

The contract includes the RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missile integrated into the launcher.

The launch module will be placed on a special truck that will be able to quickly reach the launch site.

Sweden is currently using its predecessor, the RBS15 Mk2.

Coastal anti-ship missile capabilities were reintroduced to the Swedish armed forces in 2016 and will now be complemented by the RBS15 Mk3 on new launch platforms.

“Sweden will receive a significant increase in capability with an anti-ship missile with a more advanced homing head and extended range,” the company stated.

The RBS15 Mk3 has a range of more than 200 km, can be launched from ships and trucks, and is mainly used against maritime targets.

Germany is also purchasing these RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles for its Braunschweig class corvettes.

The missile components are developed and manufactured by Saab and its German partner Diehl Defense.

“The RBS15 is specially designed for the challenging environment and harsh weather conditions of the Baltic Sea,” Saab added.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian military uses Swedish RBS17 missile systems to engage enemy ground targets. Ukraine received the RBS17 system as part of military assistance from Sweden.
