Russian invaders were firing at the Sumy region with various weapons throughout the entire night.
Dmytro Zhyvytskyy, Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration announced this on Telegram.
On the night of May 23, Russian invasion forces were firing on the town of Bilopillia in the Sumy region and its surroundings. Residential buildings were damaged.
The Russians were firing at Ukrainian settlements with various weapons from their border area.
The Russians fired with artillery, mortars, and strike aircraft.
“All night long, the enemy was firing on the peaceful town of Bilopillia and its surroundings. The Russians fired missiles from their territory, opened fire from self-propelled artillery, and an airstrike was launched at about 1 am,” said the Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
According to Zhyvytskyy, as a result of the shelling, private houses of civilian residents were affected, and at least 11 houses were severely damaged.
Dmytro Zhyvytskyy added that fortunately, no human casualties were reported.
The Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration also noted that at night, the enemy was firing mortars from its territory at the northern part of the Shostka district.
Over the last week, the Russian troops were regularly shelling the border settlements in both Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
On the morning of May 21, the Russian invaders opened artillery fire from their territory on the Esman community (Shostka district) of the Sumy region. Upon the shelling, there were no casualties reported.
Previously, on May 22, 2022, the Ukrainian paratroopers reported a Russian Su-25 to be downed. The 80th Air Assault Brigade “landed” the aircraft with the Igla MANPADS.
