Since the beginning of the Russian large-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have recorded 626 cases of invaders using ammunition with poisonous chemical substances.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on this.

In January of this year alone, 51 such cases were recorded.

The military also notes the increasing dynamics of the Russians using chemical munitions. Up to 10 such cases are recorded daily.

The General Staff said that most often, the invaders are using grenades, such as К-51 and RGR, which are dropped from drones on Ukrainian positions. The enemy also uses improvised explosive devices equipped with irritant substances.

“Artillery shelling is also carried out with shells containing chemically dangerous substances,” the report said.

In particular, on December 14, 2023, the use of a new type of RG-VO special gas grenades containing the chemical CS with tear gas was detected. The intense burning sensation in the eyes caused by it creates such irritation that a person loses spatial orientation and the ability to resist. CS gas is used for military purposes, to combat civil unrest, disperse demonstrators, and in self-defense – in gas canisters and ammunition for gas pistols.

It is noted that 36 cases of the use of dangerous chemicals were documented and sent for investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings by groups of radiation, chemical, and biological intelligence from the military units of the Support Forces Command together with the Security Service of Ukraine.

Known cases

Back in 2022, it was reported that the Russian invasion forces used К-51 gas grenades against the Ukrainian military. The invaders used drones to drop these grenades.

This was not the first report of the alleged use of a poisonous substance by Russian troops. In particular, in April 2022, the defenders of Mariupol from the Azov Regiment reported that the invaders dropped ammunition with an unknown substance from a drone, which led to weakness, tachycardia, and breathing difficulties in the victims.

It is also worth noting that К-51 gas grenades were actively used by Russian forces during the battles for Donetsk airport in 2015.

The К-51 grenade is very effective against manpower, which is located indoors without gas masks.
