Russia has installed anti-drone nets at the Rybachy nuclear submarine base, part of the Pacific Fleet, located in Kamchatka.
The development was identified by OSINT analyst MT Anderson, who analyzed Maxar satellite imagery dated August 2.
The base, situated in Krasheninnikov Bay, hosts submarines armed with Russian nuclear weapons.
The researcher observed that part of the pier and a Project 949A Antey nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine – known as Oscar II under NATO classification – were covered with nets.
He initially suggested that the nets might be intended either for protection against drones or for camouflage purposes.
A few days later, he found a photo from the same base showing Russian naval personnel on the gangway of the submarine, with nets clearly visible overhead, covering both the pier and the vessel.
The image confirms that the nets serve an anti-drone function. This indicates that the Russians are concerned about protecting their strategic military assets and nuclear submarines – even thousands of kilometers away from Ukraine – fearing potential strikes against them.
As previously reported, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine obtained classified information on the Russian nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine K-555 Knyaz Pozharsky, part of the 955A Borey-A class.
