Russian invaders have converted their Orlan reconnaissance drone into a carrier for FPV drones.
The 118th Mechanized Brigade reported on this.
The military shared on their Facebook page a screenshot from the video taken by camera of a Ukrainian interceptor drone just before the enemy UAV was shot down.
The so-called Russian ‘mother drone’ was carrying two quadcopter-type UAVs.
“Ukrainian defenders of the 118th Mechanized Brigade destroyed the Russian Orlan mother drone, which was carrying two FPV drones under its wings,” the brigade stated.
According to the defenders, this is the first time they have managed to shoot down such a modified version of the Russian Orlan UAV.
“Until now, the pilots of the interceptor unit had already shot down dozens of enemy reconnaissance drones – Orlan, Zala, and Supercam – but this is the first time they succeeded in destroying a ‘mother’ drone,” the 118th Mechanized Brigade reported.
Carrier drones are used to transport and launch smaller strike drones over long distances. This usually takes place behind enemy lines.
