The Ukrainian Defense Forces have started using a new type of interceptor drone, the BPLA Inform Telegram channel reported.
A published photo and video fragment were submitted to the channel’s editorial team for identification, as this type of drone had not been seen before.
The video shows the drone flying at high speed near a Russian reconnaissance UAV.
It was likely intended to crash into the Russian drone or detonate remotely to destroy it, though this did not happen.
It is worth paying attention to its appearance: its design features a cross-shaped tail wing and a forward wing with vertical rudders.
A closer examination shows that the horizontal and vertical rudders are positioned at the front, while the rear wings serve solely for stabilization and do not appear to be controllable.
The drone is powered by a three-blade propeller at the rear. Insulating tape is visible, securing unidentified components, possibly a camera or warhead. The presence of a specialized guidance system is also a possibility.
Ukraine has recently increased the use of drones to intercept Russian reconnaissance UAVs. These range from basic models that detonate on contact to more advanced versions equipped with radio-controlled detonation systems and targeting mechanisms.
Militarnyi previously reported that Ukraine is developing a new system to counter Russian Shahed kamikaze drones, which are launched in large numbers each night.
The concept involves using a balloon as a platform to deploy aircraft-style FPV interceptors.
The Aerobavovna company, in collaboration with partners, is working on the system, which is expected to enhance drone interception capabilities.
