A Su-24 bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed in the Rostov region.
The incident took place at about 11 am in the Morozovsky district.
According to preliminary information, the aircraft fell down in the area of the Sibirka khutor.
“The aircraft did not carry weapons and was intended for training flights. The pilots managed to eject, so no one was injured,” the Russian media reported.
Due to the crash, the dry vegetation ignited. The released photos show that the plane suffered significant damage.
The Su-24М is a Soviet-era supersonic bomber jet that is in service with a number of countries.
It is designed to conduct precise strikes at ground and surface targets under all weather and time conditions.
The first Su-24М serial aircraft (product 44) was manufactured at the Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association Plant in the summer of 1979. The Act adopting the aircraft into service was signed in 1983.
Such incidents are not uncommon in Russia. On August 27, 2021, a Su-24М bomber jet fell down in Perm. Then, the pilots also managed to eject.
In addition, the Aerospace Forces lost a significant number of Su-24Мs during the hostilities against Ukraine.
On August 9, 2022, at least five Su-24s were destroyed in occupied Crimea at the Russian Saky military airbase in Novofedorivka.
The Russians primarily deployed Su-30SM multi-role fighters, Su-24М/МR aircraft, Il-76 military transport, and other aircraft at this base.
