On September 13, in Russia’s Oryol region, three servicemen of the National Guard of Russia were killed by an explosive device planted on railway tracks. The following day, two trains derailed in the Leningrad region, with sabotage suspected.

Astra reported on this, citing local authorities.

According to Russian media, on September 13, National Guard servicemen discovered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) placed under the railway track, spaced several dozen meters apart. One of the devices detonated.

The explosion was reported by the head of the region, Andrey Klychkov. According to him, the blast occurred on the Maloarkhangelsk – Glazunovka railway section. Two servicemen died on the spot, while another was seriously wounded and later died in the hospital.

“Explosive devices were discovered during an inspection of railway tracks in the territory of the Oryol region. Tragically, two people were killed and one was injured in the explosion,” Klychkov stated.

Due to the explosion, around 20 trains traveling to or from the border regions of Belgorod and Kursk were delayed.

On the morning of September 14, reports emerged of two train derailments in the Leningrad region. Near Semrino station in the Gatchina district, a locomotive derailed, trapping the driver in the cab. He died after being extricated in an ambulance.

Another emergency occurred in the Luga district – on the Stroganovo – Mshinskaya section. A locomotive with 15 empty tank cars derailed. There were no fatalities.

The causes of the derailments are currently unknown, but it has been reported that sappers have arrived in the Luga district, and investigators are examining the possibility of sabotage.

The governor of the Leningrad region has already stated that “law enforcement efforts to ensure security across all types of transport will be strengthened in the region.”

During the night of June 1, two railway bridges were blown up in Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk regions while trains were passing over them.

As a result of the bridge explosions, the only railway line in the Bryansk region, which provided a connection to the part of the region bordering the Chernihiv region, was damaged.
