A humanitarian convoy of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) came under fire opened by the Russian-occupation.
At about 12:00, Russian-occupation forces fired on the entry-exit checkpoint Shchastia, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhny reported.
Russian occupation forces fired on the entry-exit checkpoint Shchastia in Luhansk region, where the drivers and trucks, which yesterday had delivered humanitarian cargo from the UNHCR and were moving from the non-government-controlled territory, were inspected by the State Border Guard Service officers.
“The attack, launched from Vesela Hora village, involved heavy machine guns (about 50 shots), 82mm mortar (3 shots), AGS-17 grenade launcher (10 shots),” Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
Four cars from the humanitarian convoy passed the checkpoint, people were evacuated to a shelter. Eight cars remained in the interposition zone.
No casualties among civilians and Joint Forces personnel were reported.
“I emphasize that this fact is yet another gross violation of the norms of international humanitarian law and the Minsk agreements, committed by the Russian-occupation forces,” Valeriy Zaluzhny stressed.
For reference: entry-exit checkpoints in Lugansk and Donetsk regions were created to cross the demarcation line.
Entry-exit checkpoint Shchastia is located in the city of Shchastya, Luhansk region on a section of public highway Н-21, km 72 + 100 – km – 73 + 250 (Starobilsk – Luhansk – Khrustalny – Makiivka – Donetsk).
As reported, over the past day, February 17, Russian-occupation forces striked a number of settlements of Ukraine. The artillery attack caused damaged buildings, communal infrastructure and wounded civilians.
