A Russian citizen wanted by the US on charges of planning contract killings in Europe has been arrested in Colombia.
El Pais reported on it.
The arrest took place on February 24 at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota with the assistance of Interpol.
According to the immigration service, the man is 42-year-old Denis Alimov, who flew to Colombia on a Turkish Airlines flight. He allegedly planned to continue his journey to Cartagena, one of the country’s main tourist destinations.
Preparations are currently underway to extradite the man to the US.
According to the American investigation, between October 2024 and March 2025, Alimov participated in a conspiracy to murder two “prominent European figures.”
He allegedly provided technical information and was involved in recruiting and coordinating accomplices.
In particular, the Russian transferred $60,000 in expenses to the mercenaries and promised to pay $1.5 million for each murder committed.
One of the accomplices was arrested in March 2025 in New York. After that, Alimov also became a defendant in a case in the United States.
On December 18, an American court issued an arrest warrant for Alimov on charges of conspiracy to kidnap and murder people, as well as providing material support to terrorists.
According to the VChK-OGPU, the Russian served in military unit 35690, which is the FSB’s special operations center and the base of the Vympel special forces unit, until at least 2022. He allegedly had the call sign “Aryan.”
If Alimov is found guilty of the charges against him, he could face a sentence ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment.
