The Russian military began to build a line of trenches on the southern outskirts of the city of Lgov, Kursk oblast.
The Kiber Boroshno Telegram channel reported on this.
According to satellite imagery, between August 6 and 11, Russian forces built a line of trenches along a road on the southern outskirts of Lgov.
The fortifications are actually a line of defense for the city itself, tasked with controlling the southern entrance to the city.
The newly created positions were geolocated (here) 45 kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border.
The key highway E38 passes through Lgov, connecting the Russian border town of Rylsk and leading to Kursk and Kurchatov towns. In addition, Lgov itself is home to the Lgov-2 railroad junction.
Exact information on the advance of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk oblast remains unknown. However, on August 13, the Kiber Boroshno Telegram channel geolocated footage of battle near the village of Kromski Byky, 15 km from Lgov.
As previously reported, on August 12, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that about 1,000 km² of Russian territory is under the control of Ukrainian troops.
According to Syrskyi, the topics discussed during the meeting of the top Ukrainian officials were defensive actions at the front lines and the operation in the Kursk oblast.
“The most important thing was the report of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, on our defense actions on the front line and the operation in the Kursk region. We are grateful to all the soldiers and commanders for their resilience and decisive actions. Among other things, we have instructed the Minister of Internal Affairs, other government officials, and the Security Service of Ukraine to prepare a humanitarian plan for the territory of the operation,” the President said.
Analysts from DeepState assure that the breakthrough in the Kursk oblast covers 44 settlements. In addition, there are 10 more whose status has not yet been determined.
However, they emphasize that these numbers are “extremely conservative,” so the actual advance may be even deeper. DeepState also noted that “almost no one” can clearly list the villages and towns lost to Russia, and even photos and videos do not confirm the real situation.
