The Russians lost their Ka-52 attack helicopter as a result of hostilities on the territory of the Belgorod region.

Russian media related to the Russian military authorities reported about this.

Yesterday, May 22, during attempts to repulse the attack of the Russian Volunteer Corps soldiers, the Russian military actively used army aviation, both helicopters and attack aircraft.

According to the Russians, the forces of the Russian Volunteer Corps had anti-aircraft weapons, mainly portable anti-aircraft missile systems. Presumably, it was one of them that shot down the Russian helicopter.

According to the source, the two-person crew of the combat vehicle was destroyed along with the attack helicopter.

So far, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has not commented on this event and has not confirmed the loss of the aircraft.

Ка-52

The Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter is the further development of the Ka-50 helicopter. Ka-52 tests were completed in 2011.

The main advantage of the Ka-52 is the ability to perform military functions around the clock, regardless of weather conditions.

The helicopter is able to detect enemy equipment from a considerable distance thanks to the optoelectronic reconnaissance station installed in the fore part of the hull. The image from the station can be broadcast through the combat information system to other participants on the battlefield.

The flight characteristics of the Ka-52 allow it to develop a speed of up to 300 km/h and reach a static ceiling of 4,000 m. The crew of the attack helicopter consists of 2 people.

The armament of the Ka-52 consists of a 30mm gun and six hard points that can accommodate 23mm guns or launchers with anti-tank guided or unguided missiles.

The Ka-52 also can use Russian LMUR (Izdeliye 305 – ed.) helicopter-launched air-to-surface missiles with an optical homing head. The missile with a warhead weighing 25 kg can be used on a “shoot and forget” basis or in manual control mode with video transmission from the GPS directly to the helicopter pilot. The range of the missile is 14.5 kilometers.
