Russian forces attempted to storm the Hoptivka checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Kharkiv region but were repelled, according to Viacheslav Zadorenko, head of the Derhachiv city military administration.
Speaking on August 4, Zadorenko said Ukrainian troops had successfully pushed back the Russian assault and that the checkpoint remained under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“Rumors circulated by Russian propagandists about the alleged capture of the checkpoint do not reflect reality,” he said.
Zadorenko confirmed that an attack had taken place, but it had ended in failure for the Russian side.
According to him, troops from the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade killed more than ten Russian soldiers during the fighting, while several dozen others retreated across the border into Russia.
He added that the information had been released due to growing public concern over the situation at the checkpoint.
