A drone that entered Estonian airspace from Russia overnight Wednesday crashed into a pipe at the Auvere power plant.
According to ERR, the incident occurred at 03:43 a.m. Police said no one was injured, and bomb disposal experts are currently working at the scene.
“According to the information currently available, the drone was not targeted at Estonia. Initial response measures are underway, and the investigation will determine the more precise circumstances,” Prosecutor General Astrid Asi shared.
According to a preliminary assessment, the power plant did not sustain direct damage. The drone’s impact on the smokestack did not affect Estonia’s energy system.
Estonia’s Security Police emphasized that this incident is a consequence of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine.
“We can assume that similar incidents will recur,” Director General of the Security Police Margo Palloson noted.
An unidentified drone also crashed and exploded in the Lithuanian village of Lavys on the night of March 22–23.
The drone fell into a local lake without damaging any buildings. No one was injured in the incident. According to eyewitnesses, it occurred at around 3 a.m.
