Photos and videos published online capture Russian soldiers using unusual individual shelters that look like vertical “capsules.”
According to the footage, these are not living tents but camouflage covers, likely intended to reduce both thermal and visual detection, the X account Status-6 (War & Military News) reports.
The shelters fully conceal a person’s outline, leaving only a small opening for observation.
Such a design may reduce the effectiveness of detecting a soldier by FPV drones and UAV-mounted thermal imaging cameras.
Russian forces are likely attempting to adapt to increasing losses caused by Ukrainian strike drones.
Meanwhile, the use of such shelters severely limits soldiers’ mobility and situational awareness.
The shelters are deployed in groups, which may indicate an attempt to set up concealed waiting positions or ambushes.
Despite their exotic appearance, these “capsules” reflect a critical problem facing the Russian army – the loss of effective cover and protection from aerial reconnaissance and FPV drones.
It is likely that the Russians are using portable shower-toilet tents as a ready-made solution.
However, it is not yet known how effective they are at masking heat signatures from thermal imaging cameras.
