The military-industrial complex of Russia has delivered to the army a batch of 2S19М1 Msta-S self-propelled guns.
The State Corporation “Rostec” said that it was the first batch as part of the implementation of the 2023 state defense procurement program.
The howitzers have already been sent to their places of permanent deployment. Nevertheless, the corporation classified the exact number of ACS that were transferred.
Before being sent to the troops, all combat vehicles were tested and accepted by the customer at the training ground.
According to the manufacturer, the maximum firing range of the 2S19М1 Msta-S ACS is 29 kilometers.
“The ammunition is 50 rounds. The speed is up to 60 km/h, the operational range is more than 600 km,” Rostec Corporation stated.
After an upgrade, ACS are able to fire high-explosive, rocket-assisted jammer projectiles, as well as Krasnopol laser-guided projectiles.
The upgraded version of the 2S19М1 Msta-S 152mm ACS is equipped with an automated fire control system (FCS), which allows it to fire at targets around the clock and in all weather conditions.
According to Rostec representatives, FCS provides autonomous determination of current coordinates and automatic calculation of ACS for firing from indirect lying position, as well as performing evasive manoeuvres.
Pointing weapons and their recovery after firing are carried out automatically, which not only significantly reduces time costs and improves accuracy, but also facilitates the gunner’s work.
Automation of the loading process, selection of the projectile type and release of firing cases in automatic mode reduce the physical stress of the crew and ensure a rate of fire of 8 shots per minute.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian military often strikes the Russian Msta-S self-propelled guns. Recently, Ukrainian HIMARS MRL has hit four Msta-S howitzers in the Donetsk region.
