The Russian military has been armed with the first batch of the new Flox 120mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer/mortar carrier.
The Rostec Corporation says that the ACS is capable of using ammunition that was developed for the Vena self-propelled 120mm mortar system.
Previously, it was stated that in terms of its power, high-explosive shells used with the 2S31 Vena self-propelled gun-mortars were comparable to the shells of 152-155mm caliber, while given the high accuracy of firing.
The number of systems in the first batch of Flox is not reported, and there are no other delivery details available.
It is noted that the 120mm gun is capable of firing artillery shells and mortar rounds.
Flox self-propelled guns are mounted on the basis of the army Ural-4320 armored truck with a wheel arrangement of 6×6.
Flox is designed to suppress enemy manpower, weapons and equipment.
“Thanks to its good mobility, protection, automation and a relatively low price, Flox is in great demand in the troops,” Rostec said.
The system is able to elevate the barrel in the range from -2 to +80 degrees Celsius, which allows it to hit targets along the hinged trajectory, as well as fire mortar rounds almost vertically.
“Due to its rate of fire, Flox is able to fire in burst mode, when several shells fired at different angles simultaneously hit the target,” the developers say.
As previously reported, in August 2022 in Russia Uralvagonzavod began serial production of Flox and Magnolia self-propelled artillery systems.
Both self-propelled artillery mounts are equipped with 120mm guns.
